Want to be more eco-friendly in your day-to-day live? Even the smallest of changes can make a big difference and doing something to be more eco-friendly is better than doing nothing! Below we have 3 easy ways that you can live a green life...
Avoid single-use plastic
This is often one of the most-talked about solutions to becoming more eco-friendly but it's actually a lot easier said than done. Every year the UK generates more than two million metric tons of plastic packaging waste. This equates to roughly 36 kilograms of plastic packaging waste per person. Single-use plastic is still everywhere we look so it can be easy to forget to use more sustainable alternatives. Using reusable shopping bags, investing in a water filter instead of buying bottled water and taking your own reuable coffe cup or cutlery with you are some simple ways you can significantly cut down your single-use plastic usage.
Shop small, live local
Did you know that if you choose to walk or cycle just one mile a week instead of driving, you'll save 26kg of carbon dioxide a year? By shopping small and living locally you will have a smaller impact on the environment because locally made products don't have to travel far to reach their final destination. A few ways you can do this is to visit local shops instead of driving far away, walk instead of driving where possible, grow your own food from seeds or scraps, add more plants to your home and buy from UK-based small businesses.
Don't let food go to waste!
The average household tosses £1.36 worth of food everyday. Over the course of a year, that adds up to £496.41% of food that is thrown away is because it hasn't been used in time. By being prepared anbd planning ahead what meals you will be eating for the upcoming week, you will massively reduce wasting unused food. Also be sure to put any food waste into your food recycling bin!
